first draft article

Aspiring rapper and producer Solo, has been dubbed the new Tupac only 19 years of age but is taking the music scene by storm. He is from the poorest borough in London Newham but that hasn’t stopped him chasing his dreams. Over the past few years solo has been in trouble with the law on multiple occasions but after signing for Boy Better Know at the beginning of the year he sorted himself out.

The underground battle rapper has recently released a mix tape titled trouble in paradise which features a variety calibrations that are known in the hip-hop and grime seen such as gigs skepta  and tiny tempeh. This mix tape has given critical acclaim and there are even talks of the young rapper winning a mobo.

When asked in an interview where he would like to go from here he responded “I would like to give back to my community” and then went on to talk about his deprived area and influences that encourage young people make bad decisions in life “which ultimately leads to two things prison or death”. Although he passion is there will solo be able to actually make a difference or just talk the talk without walking the walk.

Planning Version 1

Music Magazine Planning

What Genre of music will your magazine cover?

My music magazine will cover Hip-hop but the core focus of it will be Grime.

Who is the target audience? How old are they? Where do they live? What are their interests?

My target audience will be young adults, the age range will be between 16 and 24. The geographical region will be London because this is the birth place of grime and will have most fans of the genre living there. Their interests will be music related for example in grim and hip hop they talk about money clothing cars etc.

What is the name of your magazine? Why? Connotations?

The name of my magazine has not currently be decided but it will be centred around grime and the lifestyle of the artists from the genre. The connotations of the name will be very important I do believe by using a type of idiolect used in London will lead to the most.

What Mise en scene will be required? Locations? Clothing? Make up? Lighting?  Use of colour?

The clothing used will be stereotypical to the genre e.g. hoodies, dark clothing, jewellery baggy. The use of colour will be important also because of the genre but I will have to stick with dark colours to represent the culture of the music.
